Typhoid

Typhoid fever is a bacterial infection spread through contaminated food or water. It can cause severe illness and life-threatening complications if untreated. The injectable typhoid vaccine provides effective protection for travelers to high-risk areas.

  • Sub-Saharan Africa

  • Central and South America

Travelers visiting these regions, especially rural or less developed areas, are strongly advised to get vaccinated.

Travel Precautions

To minimize the risk of contracting typhoid fever:

  • Get vaccinated at least 2 weeks before travel.

  • Drink bottled or boiled water; avoid ice in drinks.

  • Avoid raw or undercooked food and eat only thoroughly cooked meals.

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and clean water.

Typhoid fever symptoms usually develop 1-2 weeks after exposure and may include:

  • High fever

  • Abdominal pain
