Norethisterone Tablets

Norethisterone is a synthetic version of the hormone progesterone. It works by maintaining high levels of this hormone in the body, which helps delay the onset of your period. Once you stop taking the tablets, your period typically starts within 2 to 3 days.

Cost

We offer Norethisterone tablets at the following prices:

  • 30 tablets – £15.00

  • 60 tablets – £25.00

  • 90 tablets – £35.00

How to Use Norethisterone

Take one tablet three times a day, starting 3 days before your expected period. Continue for as long as you need to delay your period, up to a maximum of 17 days. Always follow the guidance provided by your healthcare provider or pharmacist.

Possible Interactions

Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines. Norethisterone may interact with:

  • Epilepsy medicines (e.g. phenytoin, carbamazepine)

  • Antibiotics (e.g. rifampicin, co-trimoxazole, tetracycline)

  • HIV antivirals (e.g. ritonavir, nelfinavir)

  • Anticancer medicines

  • St John’s Wort herbal supplements

  • Aminoglutethimide (used for Cushing’s Syndrome)

  • Ciclosporin (immunosuppressant)

  • NSAIDs (pain and inflammation)

  • Medicines for high blood pressure

Norethisterone may also affect some blood test results, so please notify your doctor if you’re undergoing tests or investigations.

  • You are pregnant or trying to conceive

  • You are breastfeeding

Will Norethisterone Affect My Cycle?

In most cases, your period will return to normal shortly after you stop taking Norethisterone. If your period is significantly delayed or irregular afterward, consult your GP or use our Ask-A-Pharmacist service.

Why Choose Norethisterone?

Periods can be inconvenient, especially during special events. Norethisterone gives you the freedom to manage your cycle temporarily, without committing to long-term contraception. It’s an ideal option for women who:

  • Want to avoid the side effects of daily contraceptive pills

  • Are planning pregnancy

  • Cannot or choose not to use hormonal contraceptives
