MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)

The MMR vaccine protects against three highly contagious viral infections: measles, mumps, and rubella (German measles). These diseases can cause severe complications, making vaccination essential for children and adults who are not immune.

Countries at Risk

Measles, mumps, and rubella remain widespread in many regions, particularly where vaccination coverage is low:

  • Measles: Common in Africa, Southeast Asia, and parts of Eastern Europe.

  • Mumps: Outbreaks can occur worldwide, especially in crowded environments.

  • Rubella: Endemic in regions with poor vaccination programs, including parts of Africa, Southeast Asia, and South America.

Travelers to these areas, especially unvaccinated individuals, are at risk.

Travel Precautions

To protect against measles, mumps, and rubella while traveling:

  • Ensure you are fully vaccinated with two doses of the MMR vaccine.

  • Maintain good hygiene to reduce the risk of viral transmission.

  • Avoid close contact with individuals showing symptoms of these infections.
